iPad 3 “Retina”- the best tablet display yet?

iPad 3 is planned by apple to have the best display that any tablet can have. They are doubling the resolution of the iPad 3 from its predecessor. Apple is going to launch the iPad 3 with a two times higher the display resolution to that of the iPad 2 dubbing their new product the iPad “HD” for high definition. In the current market, the in-demand iPad 2 tablet has a touch screen whose resolution is at 1024 x 768 pixels. The third generation version of the tablet, iPad HD would have a greater display resolution that they named “Retina” that will boast a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Compared to its older version, the new iPad will be thinner, faster, smarter, and the screen size will be a bigger 9.7” Retina display. This will give users better quality of images and a greater performance level than its predecessor. The iPad HD will truly be the high-definition tablet with its Retina display feature.
The display of the new iPad will be one of its top features. For the Retina display, Apple is to use only three major panel display suppliers for manufacturing its Retina screen. Supply of the Retina display which is expected to make its debut on the iPad 3 tablets will be a crucial factor that Apple sees in order for them to meet expectation of consumers for their next-generation tablet. LG is said to now be Apple’s top supplier and Samsung is second in line for the iPad 3 display panel suppliers. Sharp though is reported to have what it needs to overtaking its Korean competitor when the company is able to supply the expected quality and demanded supply number of panels for this third generation iPad, expected to be launched late this year or in sometime early 2012
News have it that Apple was about to abandon its plans of starting the mass production of the iPad 3. It has been reported that two of their three major suppliers namely Samsung and LG have been facing difficulties in supplying Apple a huge number of their required 2,048 x 1,536 screen resolution display panels for the new tablet. These poor display yields which pushed the iPad 3 to be launched earlier. Despite this problem, Apple is hopeful and is positive that their suppliers for their third-generation iPad which is expected to be launched late this year or sometime early in 2012, can deliver their requirements. Apple strenuously asked their suppliers to ramp up the production and improve the rate of manufactured display panels. They expect that all of their three primary LCD makers, Samsung Electronics, Sharp, and LG will all be able to supply LCD panels for the iPad 3 demanded.
For other parts supplies, Chimei Innolux, presently said to be one of the display suppliers for the currently shipping iPad 2 failed in their certification for the iPad 3 due to higher quality demand difficulties and may not be supplying parts for the new generation iPad. This is as per Apple’s stricter requirements and a better commitment for product quality. For Apple’s hi-definition display, besides the 3 major Retina display providers, they will also get other parts for the display of the iPad 3 from other Asian manufacturers like Taiwan-based Radiant Opto-Electronics for the backlight units. They are expected to supply about one-half of the backlights required. Some of the backlight units and parts to be used will also come from other companies like Radiant and other Japanese backlight suppliers.
