History teacher

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

My husband has been teaching history for ten years. Prior to that, he taught geographyfor five years. He prefers to teach history because he enjoys it more. He says that teaching history is like storytelling. Every year for Christmas, his mom gives him some sort of documentary to use in his classes. We own documentaries on everything from the Constitution to World War II. I don’t think he has ever watched any of them, but recently he has started watching the history channel and has really gotten into their documentaries. I can’t imagine being interested in history documentaries, but I guess he can’t imagine being interested in the channels that I watch. Thank goodness we were able to find all the channels we wanted on Direct TV. We’ve been able to watch the channels we enjoy at separate times because his documentaries usually come on in the late afternoons and my shows usually come on at night. My husband says that if I start watching these documentaries that I will begin to enjoy history. I never enjoyed it during school because I had teachers who were uninterested in the subject matter. Hopefully since my husband enjoys the subject, his students will learn to appreciate it too.
